1:THE SIGNIFICANCE OF FAILURE
Robert H. Schuller
Failure doesn t mean you are a failure,
It does mean you hen t succeeded yet.
Failure doesn t mean you he accomplished nothing,does mean you he learned something.
Failure doesn t mean you he been a fool,
It does mean you had a lot of faith.
Failure doesn t mean you ve been disgraced,
It does mean you were willing to try.
Failure doesn t mean you don t he it,
It does mean you he to do something in a different way.
Failure doesn t mean you are inferior,
It does mean you are not perfect.
Failure doesn t mean you ve wasted your life,
It does mean you he a reason to start afresh.
Failure doesn t mean you should give up,
It does mean you must try harder.
Failure doesn t mean you ll never make it,
It does mean it will take a little longer.
Failure doesn t mean God has abandoned you,
It does mean God has a better idea.
2:FOLLOW YOUR OWN COURSE
Neil Simon
Don t listen to those who say,
“It s not done that way.”
Maybe it s not, but maybe you will.
Don t listen to those who say,
“You re taking too big a chance.”
Michelangelo would he painted the Sistine Floor,
and it would surely be rubbed out by today.
Most importantly, don t listen
When the little voice of fear inside of you
rear its ugly head and says,
“They re all smarter than you out there.
They re more talented,
They re taller, blonder, prettier, luckier and he
connections...”
I firmly believe that if you follow a path that interests
you,
Not to the exclusion of love, sensitivity, and cooperation
with others,
But with the strength of conviction
That you can move others by your own efforts,
And do not make success or failure the criteria by which you
live,
The chances are you ll be a person worthy of your own
respect.
Napolean Hill
Faith is the “eternal elixir”
Which gives life, power, and action to the impulse of
thought!
Faith is the starting point of all accumulation of riches!
Faith is the basis of all “miracles”,
And all mysteries which cannot be analyzed by the rules of
science!
Faith is the only known antidote for failure!
Faith is the element, the “chemical” which,
When mixed with prayer, gives one direct communication with
Infinite Intelligence.
Faith is the element which transforms the ordinary vibration
of thought, created by the finite mind of man, into the
spiritual equivalent.
Faith is the only agency through which
the cosmic force of Infinite
Intelligence can be harnessed and used by man.
4:RESULTS AND ROSES
Edgar Albert Guest
The man who wants a garden fair,
Or small or very big,
With flowers growing here and there,
Must bend his back and dig.
The things are mighty few on earth,
That wishes can attain,
Whatever we want of any worth,
We ve got to work to gain.
It matters not what goal you seek,
Its secret here reposes:
You ve got to dig from week to week,
To get results or roses.
Irene Dunlap
Change is the only absolute
in the world,
the only thing
that you can depend on.
Nothing stays the same.
Tomorrow will come,
bringing with it
new beginnings and sometimes
unexpected endings.
You can hold on to the past
and get left in the dust;
or, you can choose to
jump on the ride of life
and live a new adventure
with perseverance
and an open mind.
蒙受遗弃;

Charlotte Bront? in Leeds Point
by Stephen Dunn
From her window marshland stretched for miles.
If not for egrets and gulls, it reminded her of the moors
behind the parsonage, how the fog often hovered
and descended as if sheltering some sweet compulsion
the age was not ready to see. On clear days the jagged
skyline of Atlantic City was visible?Atlantic City,
where all compulsions had a home.
"Everything's too easy now," she said to her neighbor,
"nothing resisted, nothing gained." Once, at eigh,
she dreamed of London's proud salons glowing
with brilliant fires and dazzling chandeliers.
Already her own person?passionate, assertive?
soon she'd create a governess insistent on rights equal
to those above her rank. "The dangerous picture
of a natural heart," one offended critic carped.
She'd failed, he said, to let religion reign
over the passions and, worse, she was a woman.
Now she was amazed at what women had,
doubly amazed at what they didn't.
But she hadn't come back to complain or haunt.
Her house on the bay was modest, adequate.
The Present Writer
by Coner O'Callaghan
answers questions vaguely, as if from distance,
cares less for the dribs and drabs of his libido;
gets more droll, lachrymose, implicit with age;
has backed from the room, the turntable moving
and a refill pad lying open at the page
with 'swansong' and 'glockenspiel' written on it;
makes collect calls from payphones, lost for words;
has been known to sleep in the rear seat
on the hard shoulder, the hazards ticking;
is given to sudden floods of hope; still dreams
of swimming pools, in sepia; can take or lee
a life in shadow; will whoop out of the blue
and surface on the landing, fork and spoon in hand,
adrift of what the done thing was; doodles butterflies
on the envelopes of unread letters; trels hiest
towards daylight and fancies pigeons; gets a kick
inhabiting the third person, as if talking across himself
or forever cling his own exits from the wings.
The Potato
by Joseph Stroud
Three days into the journey
I lost the Inca Trail
and scrambled around the Andes
in a growing panic
when on a hillside below snowline
I met a farmer who pointed the way?
Machu Picchu all?, he said.
He knew where I wanted to go.
From my pack I pulled out an orange.
It seemed to catch fire
in that high blue Andean sky.
I ge it to him.
He had been digging in a garden,
turning up clumps of earth,
some odd, misshapen nuggets,
some potatoes.
He handed me one,
a potato the size of the orange
looking as if it had been in the ground
a hundred years,
a potato I carried with me
until at last I stood gazing down
on the Urubamba valley,
peaks rising out of the jungle into clouds,
and there among the mists
was the Temple of the Sun
and the Lost City of the Incas.
Looking back now, all these years later,
what I remember most,
what matters to me most,
was that farmer, alone on his hillside,
who ge me a potato,
a potato with its peasant face,
its lumps and lunar craters,
a potato that fit perfectly in my hand,
a potato that consoled me as I walked,
told me not to fear,
held me close to the earth,
the potato I put in a pot that night,
the potato I boiled above Machu Picchu,
the patient, gnarled potato
I ate.

O Mistress Mine
William Shakespeare
O mistress! Where are you roaming?
O! Stay and hear; your true love is coming
That can sing both high and low.
Trip no further, pretty sweeting,
Journey end in lovers meeting,
Every wise man?s son doth know.
What is love tis not hereafter;
Present mirth hath present laughter;
What?s to come is still unsure:
In delay there is no plenty;
Then come kiss me sweet and twenty,
Youth?s a stuff will not endure.
2The Hungry Moths
Poor hungry white moths
That eat my love?s clothing,
Who says very soon
Ye?ll lee her with nothing,
Here under the moon
I make bold to persuade ye,
Ye may eat all her clothes
So ye lee me milady,
Poor hungry white moths.
啃起我爱人的衣裳;
3The Lamp
If I can bear your love like a lamp before me,
When I go down the long steep Road of Darkness,
I shall not fear the everlasting shadows,
Nor cry in terror.
If I can find out God, then I shall find Him;
If none can find Him, then I shall sleep soundly,
Knowing how well on earth your love sufficed me,
A lamp in darkness.
多少险阻艰难;
不为恐怖而呼喊;
我的心再无不安;

Babys way
F baby only wanted to, he could fly up to heen this moment.
It is not for nothing that he does not lee us.
He loves to rest his head on mother's bosom, and cannot ever bear to lose sight of her.
Baby knows all manner of wise words, though few on earth can understand their meaning.
It is not for nothing that he never wants to speak.
The one thing he wants is to learn mother's words from mother's lips. That is why he looks so innocent.
Baby had a heap of gold and pearls, yet he came like a beggar on to this earth.
It is not for nothing he came in such a disguise.
This dear little naked mendicant pretends to be utterly helpless, so that he may beg for mother's wealth of love.
Baby was so free from every tie in the land of the tiny crescent moon.
It was not for nothing he ge up his freedom.
He knows that there is room for endless joy in mother's little corner of a heart, and it is sweeter far than liberty to be caught and pressed in her dear arms.
Baby never knew how to cry. He dwelt in the land of perfect bliss.
It is not for nothing he has chosen to shed tears.
Though with the smile of his dear face he draws mother's yearning heart to him, yet his little cries over tiny troubles wee the double bond of pity and love.
The unheeded pageant
AH, who was it coloured that little frock, my child, and covered your sweet limbs with that little red tunic?
You he come out in the morning to play in the courtyard, tottering and tumbling as you run.
But who was it coloured that little frock, my child?
What is it makes you laugh, my little life-bud?
Mother smiles at you standing on the threshold.
She claps her hands and her bracelets jingle, and you dance with your bamboo stick in your hand like a tiny little shepherd.
But what is it makes you laugh, my little life-bud?
O beggar, what do you beg for, clinging to your mother's neck with both your hands?
O greedy heart, shall I pluck the world like a fruit from the sky to place it on your little rosy palm?
O beggar, what are you begging for?
The wind carries away in glee the tinkling of your anklet bells.
The sun smiles and watches your toilet. The sky watches over you when you sleep in your mother's arms, and the morning comes tiptoe to your bed and kisses your eyes.
The wind carries away in glee the tinkling of your anklet bells.
The fairy mistress of dreams is coming towards you, flying through the twilight sky.
The world-mother keeps her seat by you in your mother's heart.
He who plays his music to the stars is standing at your window with his flute.
And the fairy mistress of dreams is coming towards you, flying through the twilight sky.
Sleep-Stealer
WHO stole sleep from baby's eyes? I must know.
Clasping her pitcher to her waist mother went to fetch water from the village near by.
It was noon. The children's playtime was over; the ducks in the pond were silent.
The shepherd boy lay asleep under the shadow of the banyan tree.
The crane stood gre and still in the swamp near the mango grove.
In the meanwhile the Sleep-stealer came and, snatching sleep from baby's eyes, flew away.
When mother came back she found baby trelling the room over on all fours.
Who stole sleep from our baby's eyes? I must know. I must find her and chain her up.
I must look into that dark ce, where, through boulders and scowling stones, trickles a tiny stream.
I must search in the drowsy shade of the bakula grove, where pigeons coo in their corner, and fairies' anklets tinkle in the stillness of starry nights.
In the evening I will peep into the whispering silence of the bamboo forest, where fireflies squander their light, and will ask every creature I meet, "Can anybody tell me where the Sleep-stealer lives?"
Who stole sleep from baby's eyes? I must know.
Shouldn't I give her a good lesson if I could only catch her!
I would raid her nest and see where she hoards all her stolen sleep.
I would plunder it all, and carry it home.
I would bind her two wings securely, set her on the bank of the river, and then let her play at fishing with a reed among the rushes and water-lilies.
When the marketing is over in the evening, and the village children sit in their mothers' laps, then the night birds will mockingly din her ears with:
"Whose sleep will you steal now?" ?

When you are old and gray and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the Pilgrim Soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly. how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
I'm nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there's a pair of us-don't tell!
They'd advertise-you know!
How dreary to be somebody!
How public like a frog
To tell one's name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!
If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley-but be
The best little scrub by the side of the rill;
要做溪边最棒的一棵;
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.
If you can't be a bush be a bit of grass,
And some highway hier make;
给路边带去更多欢笑;
If you can't be a muskie then just be a bass-
But the liveliest bass in the lake!
We can't all be captains, we've got to be crew,
There's something for all of us here.
There's big work to do, and there's lesser to do,
And the task you must do is the near.
If you can't be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can't be the sun be a star;
如果你当不了太阳,就做一颗星星;
It isn't by size that you win or you fail-
Be the best of whatever you are!

o! how much more doth beauty beauteous seem
by that sweet ornament which truth doth give.
the rose looks fair, but fairer we it deem
for that sweet odour, which doth in it live.
the canker blooms he full as deep a dye
as the perfumed tincture of the roses,
hang on such thorns, and play as wantonly
when summer's breath their masked buds discloses:
but, for their virtue only is their show,
they live unwoo'd, and unrespected fade;
die to themselves. sweet roses do not so;
of their sweet deaths are sweetest odours made:
and so of you, beauteous and lovely youth,
when that shall vade, my verse distills your truth.
when my mother died i was very young,
and my father sold me while yet my tongue
could scarcely cry 'weep! 'weep! 'weep! 'weep!
so your chimneys i sweep, and in soot i sleep.
there's little tom dacre, who cried when his head,
that curled like a lamb's back, was shed: so i said,
"hush, tom! never mind it, for when your head's bare, 我就说:“小托姆,不要紧,光了脑袋,
you know that the soot cannot spoil your white hair."
and so he was quiet; and that very night,
as tom was a-sleeping, he had such a sight, - 托姆睡着了,事情就来得稀奇,
that thousands of sweepers, dick, joe, ned, and jack,
were all of them locked up in coffins of black.
and by came an angel who had a bright key,
and he opened the coffins and set them all free;
then down a green plain leaping, laughing, they run,
and wash in a river, and shine in the sun.
then naked and white, all their bags left behind,
they rise upon clouds and sport in the wind; 他们就升上了云端,在风里游戏;
and the angel told tom, if he'd be a good boy, “只要你做个好孩子,”天使对托姆说,
he'd he god for his father, and never want joy.
and so tom awoke; and we rose in the dark,
and got with our bags and our brushes to work.
though the morning was cold, tom was hy and warm; 大清早尽管冷,托姆的心里可温暖;
so if all do their duty they need not fear harm.
with how sad steps, o moon月啊,你用悲哀的步伐
with how sad steps, o moon, thou climb’st the skies!
how silently, and with how wan a face!
what! may it be that even in heenly place
that busy archer his sharp arrows tries?
sure, if that long-with-love-acquainted eyes
can judge of love, thou feel’st a lover’s case:
i read it in thy looks, ---thy languished grace
to me, that feel the like, thy state descries.
then, even of fellowship, o moon, tell me,
is constant love deemed there but want of wit?
are beauties there as proud as here they be?
do they above love to be loved, and yet
those lovers scorn whom that love doth possess?
do they call virtue there ungratefulness?
It’s the anarchy of poverty
Delights me, the old
Yellow wooden house indented
Among the new brick tenements
Or a cast iron balcony
With panels showing oak branches
In full leaf. It fits
The dress of the children
Reflecting every stage and
Custom of necessity—
Chimney roof fences of
Wood and metal in an unfenced

Age and enclosing next to
Nothing at all: the old man
In a sweater and soft black
Hat who sweeps the sidewalk—

His own ten feet of it—
In a wind that fitfully
Turning his corner has
Overwhelmed the entire city
适合女生朗诵的英文诗歌:THE MOST DISTANCE、life等。
即Practice makes perfect(多练出真功)。
She is a baby doctor.
A Psalm of Life(1839)
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
What the Heart of the Young Man
Said to the Psalmist
Tell me not,in mournful numbers,
"Life is but an empty dream!"
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
它的归宿决不是荒坟; And the gre is not its goal;
Dust thou art,to dust returnest,"
Was not spoken of the soul.
Not enjoyment,and not sorrow,
不是享乐,也不是受苦; Is our destined end or way;
But to act,that each to-morrow
Finds us further than to-day.
Art is long,and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts,though stout and bre,
Still,like muffled drums,are beating
Funeral marches to the gre.
In the world's broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb,driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!
Trust no Future,howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,---act in the living Present!
Heart within,and God o'erhead!
Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And,departing,lee behind us
留下脚印在时间的沙上; Footprints on the sands of time;
Footprints,that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing,shall take heart again.
Let us,then,be up and doing,
对任何命运都敢于担戴; With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving,still pursuing
Learn to labor and to wait.
?by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The sun is bright, - the air is clear,
The darting swallows soar and sing.
And from the stately elms I hear,
The bluebird prophesying Spring.
So blue you winding river flows,
It seems an outlet from the sky,
Where waiting till the west-wind blows,
The freighted clouds at anchor lie.
All things are new; - the buds, the lees,
That gild the elm-tree's nodding crest,
And even the nest beneath the ees;
There are no birds in last year's nest!
就是屋檐下的鸟巢也是新筑的;
All things rejoice in youth and love,
The fullness of their first delight!
And learn from the soft heens above
The melting tenderness of night.
Maiden, that read'st this simple rhyme,
Enjoy thy youth, it will not stay;
Enjoy the fragrance of thy prime,
For oh, it is not always May!
你当尽享你的青春,因为它不会停留;
Enjoy the Spring of Love and Youth,
To some good angel lee the rest;
For Time will teach thee soon the truth,
There are no birds in last year's nest!
把其余的留给好心的天使照顾;
On thy cold gray stones, O Sea!
And I would that my tongue could utter
The thoughts that arise in me.
O, well for the fisherman's boy,
That he shouts with his sister at play!
O, well for the sailor lad,
That he sings in his boat on the bay!
与姊妹一起游戏呼喊;
And the stately ships go on
To their hen under the hill;
But O for the touch of a vanished hand,
And the sound of a voice that is still!
驶向山下的海港;
Break, break, break,
At the foot of thy crags, O Sea!
But the tender grace of a day that is dead
Will never come back to me.
